My Impure Hair...which I would whip back and forth

Recently my mind has been a colorful mess of Tim Walker balloons mixed with Beirut in Paris and carousels mixed with Meadham Kirchhoff rainbow hair...While all of these equally beautiful, I am going to focus on the hair:

Seeing that rainbow hair renewed by second grade desire for blue and red hair. Above SOME all the people who I have "hair envy" for. (there are really many more)

2011: another space odyssey

Recently there has been a trend that I have totally succumbed to for the simple reason that I LOVE IT! This trend is space/aliens/planets etc. and is suddenly (actually I included a lot of things from before that were just wonderfully spacey) everywhere!

Risto Bimbiloski's s/s 2009 collection: I REALLY like Risto's clothes and he was really ahead of the curve on this space trend, but everything that has followed has also been super unique and cool. The only negative thing I can say is that I wrote a letter to the label asking if they would send some clothing (both because it's expensive and hard to find!) for my upcoming film...and they never even responded...Boooooo! And I don't mean Boo Radley...I mean like "Boo, you whore".

Aya Takano's "Looking to Earth from the Moon": As I mentioned, Aya Takano is one of the most slinkster-cool--as Weetzie Bat would say--artists ever...so while this doesn't really prove a this-year-trend in space (it was made in 2004), I think it's just another way of showing how amazing all of the different interpretations of space can be.

Jeremy Scott F/W 2007: Always a trendsetter, Jeremy Scott combined brought his innovative clothing to another level---the last frontier in fact! (ahaha) But seriously, what could be more fabulous then poodles in space?!

Peter Pilotto's collection for Kipling: I love it when a fancy designer, who's goods you could never afford, design a collection for another company that you can very much afford! And I love it when the said collections are beautiful backpacks to make your (or at least my) school day a little more beautiful (and fashionable!). And to top it all of, like a cherry on a sundae, I love it when the backpacks have a galaxy print!!!

Sueño Astral: Just another lovely interpretation of space/the sky by the wonderful artist Esau Andrade

Christopher Kane's s/s 2011 resort collection: I already said this was my favourite collection, but at the time couldn't exactly put my finger on why...now I know exactly why; it's because it has a cosmic print!!!

This is one of many great spacey/alien photos from Vogue UK's alien editorial, "The Lady Who Fell to Earth", with photo's by TIM WALKER!!!!!!!

migh-T by KUMIKO WATARI's "Space Sweets": I love everything Kumiko Watari/migh-T makes and I just felt so damn cool (not to mention coordinated) wearing my donuts and space print t-shirt to the Griffith Park Planetarium

Topshop Unique s/s 2010 (I think): Topshop figured out the space trend long ago, with these UFO print dresses and skirts...sadly I was not smart enough to realize how ahead they were and anything with the UFO print has become one of my items to search the great depths of the internet for.

All the cool kids are doing it!

And as a beautiful ending note, "The Moon Princess" by Nicoletta Ceccoli.

"back to school, ring the bell brand new shoes, walking blues climb the fence, book and pens"

Today is my last day of winter break...and while it has been long and joyous, and I suppose it is time to go back to school, I am going to miss these days where I can just spend all day reading Francesca Lia Block

Eating pork buns

Listening to Noah and the Whale

Cutting out things from magazines

And feeling just generally fantastic....

But who knows...maybe I my back to school will look like this:

sources: Banksy, "Don't Forget Your Scarf" (it WAS the front of his site), Roses & Bones, buns, anchorman, karlie kloss in british vogue'

Pink Kisses

Aya Takano is seriously one of my favourite artists out there today, I mean her work is just so fabulous and unique! And I have previously mentioned my love of art in/on common objects...so, if you are following my chain of logic, and agree with what I have said, then you too will love Aya Takano's collection for Shu Uemura!

O so sadly, though, most of the items, while wonderful, are quite expensive and a lot of stuff is SOLD OUT (my worst enemy when shopping online) But there are a few items still available wholesale, and also on Ebay.

And a Happy New Year

A very happy 2011 to everybody hopefully this will be an exciting and wonderful year!

To kiss 2010 goodbye I am giving a short list of my personal favourites from (what is now) last year.

Best movie, "Somewhere": this movie is unbelievably beautiful...I could feel it touching my heart while I watched it. The trailer gives the idea (though I would highly recommend actually seeing the movie) and uses one of my favourite songs, "I'll try Anything Once" done by Julian Casablancas (it's the demo version of the Strokes' song "You Only Live Once")

Best Album(s): I know that if something is the best, it's better then everything else, and thus can only there can only be ONE best...but 2010 was just such a damn good year for music that I even had trouble picking these top three!
Broken Bells and their eponymous album: I mentioned this record when I first started listening to it because it is instantly striking. I think that Danger Mouse is one of the most talented (and also one of the coolest) people in the music industry today, and James Mercer has probably the most melodic and invoking voice I've ever heard. So, of course the mix of them together is unstoppable. Every song is amazing and unique, but I'd particularly recommend, "Vaporize", "October", and "The High Road".

MGMT Congratulations: I'm really sad about all the the hate that MGMT is getting for their second album, especially because I actually think it's quite good! It's true that it's very different from Oracular Spectacular, but it's also got a more "mature" sound (I put that in quotes because it sounds pretentious, but now I feel like a Chris Farley Weekend Update) I really like the songs "I Found a Whistle", "Flash Delirium", and my favourite song would have to be, "Congratulations".

The Black Keys Brothers: I kind of feel like I jumped on the Black Keys bandwagon, but it's kind of hard not to because their most recent album is just sooooo good! They have a totally unique sound, that is an amazingly eclectic mix of retro blues and and very modern rock. At the risk of sounding like a Disney trailer, Brothers is fun for the whole family; me, my dad, and my brother all are loving it! I particularly recommend the songs "Everlasting Light", "Tighten Up" (which is produced by Danger Mouse), and "Howlin' For You".

Best Art Exhibit, The Art of Tim Burton: This show was a tour de force...it was something totally different and totally amazing, something strange and wonderful! I've always loved Tim Burton's non-film art, but I had never seen so many and they way they were arranged was really just fantastic! I am so ecstatic that the show is coming to my local LACMA.

Best Restaurant that opened in 2010, Chego: Roy Choi is officially my hero, I fell in love when I ate at the Kogi Truck (the Korean/Mexican fusion truck that gave him his reputation and started the LA food truck craze). But then my heart melted completely when I got take out from Chego...I can't find an adjective that even begins to express the deliciousness, so let me just tell you what my family had: Korean "3 PM" meatballs, Tiny’s Prime Rib Rice Plate, Tres Leches (possibly the best dessert I have ever had). I also recently went to A Frame, the newest restaurant to join the family, (which was also amazing, but my heart still lies with Chego) where I met Mr. Choi himself who became my idol even more, when he described an ice cream sandwich as ghetto!

Best Street art, Banksy in San Francisco: It's Banksy, it's in San Francisco...I think that's all that needs to be said

While all these things are great, by far the best part of 2010 was spending it with my family and friends.

Bye 2010...2011 you have a lot to live up to!
