It Turns out that Slow and Steady Does NOT Win the Race

I was looking forward to this Alexa Chung for Madewell collection FOREVER, but I somehow missed when it first became available! I'm so sorry because two amazing dresses (shown above) are sold-out! BUT, I would more then happily settle for the sketchbook tee (shown top center) or the black velvet shorts (shown bottom center). This collaboration is so creative and has the clear shine of Alexa Chung's unique style!

I have a really bad tendency to miss collaborations...

I missed Christopher Kane for Top Shop

And perhaps worst of all, Rodarte for Target

I'm glad I caught this one before it's too late!

The Tails of Sardines

Recently (while looking for something completely different) I discovered Les Queues de Sardines (which translates to The Tails of Sardines) and I am so happy that I did because...I am in love with their tights! Every pair is so whimsical and funny like the race car (right corner) or the eye flowers (second in from right)

Sweet suits (another post with a title that is an alliteration and references the New York Times Styles Section)

I didn't blog it at the time, but a little while ago I read an article in the New York Times Style Section (where else :) about these amazing WE ARE HANDSOME swimsuits! Although I mentioned that I am a fan of one-pieces before, I didn't say why...well, it's because it gives you more space for a design, and I really think these suits utilize that space with photographs of James Dean, Los Angeles, African animals, and so much more!

I do feel, though, that I should forewarn you that they are quite a bit more then your average bathing suit.

Nice Nails

I recently heard about the amazing nail polish designer Deborah Lippman and I am in awe! I love every single on of her amazing shades with their amazing names (like "Ruby Red Slippers" (shown second in from bottom right) She has many amazing collaborations with people/brands like Cher, Zac Posen, and Rodarte! Being a huge fan of sparkly nail polish my favourites are "Across the Universe" and "Happy Birthday" (shown at left)

And as if they had read my mind, that pesky New York Times style section recently put out an article on nail polish at fashion week!

"Your prettiness is seeping through Out from the dress I took from you" (MORE ABOUT DRESSESS!!!)

I've been thinking about dresses a lot...the crazy cool kind in particular! So here is a list of my personal favourite "statement" dresses from the 21st century...they're "far out" and I'm with them!!!
This dress from Viktor & Rolf's Spring/Summer 2010 is memorable and holy (in two ways)

Katey Perry's super colourful and playful carousel dress is my "teenage dream"!

Pretty much every dress Issey Miyake has ever made...but I particularly love this one that looks like rainbow origami.
It was very hard to choose which was my favourite Lady Gaga look, but I finally settled on this stuffed animal dress...

As worn by Rachel on Glee during the Gaga episode

I always love Carey Mulligan's style and this Prada dress she wore to the 2010 Oscars was no exception!

"He always lays on the beach in his clothes, wishing the ocean would take him away"

As it dawns on me that summer is over...

I listen to Iron & Wine:

And wish my life was a Hayao Miyazaki movie

Adore Disney Couture Little Mermaid jewelry

And obsess over Ray Ceasar paintings

And I realized that if there there is one thing I love it's the sea!!!

"Don't Let the Dress Trick You"

About a month ago I went to Polka Dots & Moonbeams (a magical vintage clothing store that most definitely falls under the list of things I love!) and saw THIS dress! I fell in love with it, but didn't buy it...I was sure it would be gone, but after looking through every rack of the store, I found and even better, it was on amazing sale!!!

I really love the blue fringe at the bottom and think it might look nice with my MARC by Marc Jacobs silver high heels and the Longchamp bag I inherited from my mother:

The title of this post comes from a Blonde Redhead song, aptly named "The Dress" :

"Sock it to Me"

Not too long ago I blogged about happy socks, but what I did not include in that post was that they lead me to a sock obsession! In my sock craze I stumbled upon these amazing Solmate Socks which are amazing for a multitude of reasons including: they are mismatched, they are named after flowers, there is a new one each month....or in summary, THEY ARE ADORABLE IN EVERY WAY!!!

"49 Days"

I know I say this about a lot of different people, but if I really had to pick a favourite artist, it might just be Yumiko Kayukawa! Lucky for me, she is having a solo show in LA at the most awesome place EVER, La Luz De Jesus!!!

Show runs through September 26th

SPLAT!!!!

Suddenly splatter paint seems to be every where...from Proenza Schouler collaboration with J Brand "Graffiti Jeans" (shown right corner) to jeans from Current/Elliott and Tory Burch (shown at right)...and I am loving it!!! I am very much embracing the trend with: a Vince shirt from Bloomingdales (bottom right corner) and handmade earrings that my mom got in the 70s (bottom center), which incidentally go perfect with a necklace that used to be my aunt (splatter paint detail shown second right, bottom)

And I really do think it all stems from the amazing artists Jackson Pollock (top left) and Sam Francis (bottom left)

Commercial Couture

While flipping through Bazaar my eye was caught by the extremely exuberant and colorful new Juicy Couture ad ("Juicy Fields Forever", shown bottom left) and I was reminded of, regardless of my feelings for their actual products (the only thing I really like is the perfume) how much I have always loved their ads!

The one with the older ladies with coloured hair is perfect for this Weetzie Bat quote: "[she had] perfect white hair that sometimes had lovely blue or pink tints."

I particularly liked last year's "Do the Don'ts" (shown right) which are very whimsical and remind me of Tim Burton's version of Alice and Wonderland:

And they also remind me of the music video for Lily Allen's "The Fear":

I think the Juicy ads are a tie for my favourite with Prada's spring/summer 2010 lookbook:

"Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?"

So my lack of blogging is do to my staring high school...something that does not fall under the list of things I love. I think my favourite author Francesca Lia Block read my mind with the first line of Weetzie Bat: "The reason Weetzie Bat hated high school was because no one understood".

BUT, what makes it all better is re-reading Stephan Chobsky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower...because Charlie is going through the same "start of high school" experience and can just perfectly articulate the feelings brought on by the situation!

READ THESE BOOKS!!!!
