Song of the Day: New Slang-The Shins

This song is one of the things in this world that is just too beautiful! I owe it both to Romy for giving me the name and Zach Braff (my directing hero) for using it so beautifully in his film Garden State.

Rat is An Anagram for Art

There was much excitement amongst lovers of underground art when it was announced that Jeffrey Deitch, former owner of Deitch Projects, was to starting running MOCA...but Mr. Deitch disappointed art lovers of all forms with his poorly received first show (featuring work by Dennis Hopper). At this point it seemed as though the game was lost both for Mr. Deitch and those who had expected better from him, but then he announced "Art in the Streets", the largest museum street art show to date...needless to say, everybody, including myself, went wild.

The show was not a letdown, in fact, it far exceeded my expectations, which were extremely high as I am a huge street art fan...actually that's a lie, I'm only like 5 feet tall...ahaha get it?! Sorry, that was low even by my standards... Anyways, the show was really too vast to even really comprehend, put aside share online, but here are a few highlights

Banksy's take on Rodney King, a super realistic sculpture by the man of many pseudonyms, Barry McGee/Twist/Twister/Twisto/Twisty/Ray Fong/Lydia Fong/R. Fong/Robert Pimple/Bernon Vernon/Ray Virgil

A large-scale installation by Margaret Killigan, whom death took much to early and an even large, unbelievably whimsical installation by Os Gemeos...seriously that thing was amazing; there were drums with faces painted on them and little window boxes with toys and of course a house sticking off of it (which you can kind of see above)

A detail of the Kenny Scharf car, which might just be the coolest thing I've ever seen and Mister Cartoon's ice cream truck, which is also very high up on the my list of amazing things...I'd seen it twice before and I still spent like 20 straight minutes staring at it

One of his many signature tiles that Invader snuck in and around the show and a piece by André aka Monsieur André aka Monsieur A aka Mr. A that lead to the bathroom

I Only Knew the Suburbs From the Song

Influenced by polyvore, tumblr, my scrapbook, and blog I like, I am trying something new...I guess you could say it's posts of random inspiration, but it's also kind of like a mood board of things on my mind...or maybe that's all that inspiration is...anyway, enjoy!

Song of the Day: Forever and Amen-the Drums

Romy has been telling me to listen to the Drums for quite a while, but I just put them on my list of bands I should one day explore and didn't get around to them. Thankfully, when I was at Coachella my friend took me to see them and we were lucky (and pushy) enough to get to the front, but even before that their music had struck me. It is a really awesome mix of like '80s British bands and neo-grunge, if that is a thing. My personal favourite song of theirs is Forever and Amen, enjoy.

The Still Point of the Turning World

Song of the Day: Scenic World-Beirut

To be blunt: I LOVE BEIRUT. His music is not like anything else I've ever heard, it's very whimsical and beautiful all done up in old fashion horns and tin drums that cause it to remind me of a circus by the sea (like a combination of Neutral Milk Hotel's two big albums) where everything seems like it is filmed in grainy footage with pastel colours...I think this feel is shown best in Scenic World which is an unusual and captivating mix of the most beautiful feelings and the saddest...
