Song of the Day: Rebellion (Lies)-Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire was one of my favourite acts I saw at Coachella because of THIS SONG...it felt so special and sentimental, with thousands of people all packed in the desert night chanting in a sort of whimsical, lullaby like way "lies, lies, lies".

Alphabet Soup

I am a magazine enthusiast, I mean I really love magazines...and one of my favourite parts about them is that you stumble upon the most fantastic things. I was flipping through W Magazine when I saw this two page spread of all these up-and-coming designers and I was struck; they were all so unique and cool! Hopefully there will be more to come, but the first designer from the article I wanted to share is Tadaaki Wakamatsu, the man behind the AMAZING Japanese jewelery line Q-Pot. You can see the blurb about him from the article above (sorry for the fingers, my scanner is "on the fritz").

The uniqueness of Q-Pot is definitely shown in their most popular piece, a "build a burger" necklace (shown above) that you buy different charms for in order to create your own little burger man. In addition, though, they also have ice cream charms, cookie necklaces, cupcake rings, and, my personal favourite, the balloon dog necklace, which I was lucky enough to get in Paris at Colette (the home of everything cool)

Back: Like the Fads From the '60s

I'm sorry that I have been so bad about my posting...in addition to my usual crazy schoolwork I went last week to Coachella (seriously among the most awesome experiences of my life, maybe one day I will get around to posting the pictures/videos) Anwhoo...now I am back in my usual routine of free-time weekends which means more things I love to posted here :)

The image is from "The Runaways" and doesn't really have anything to do with this post, but just seemed like the title (even though it was actually the 70s)

Here it Come, That Heavy Love

I'm not really sure that words can describe how amazing Bright Eyes' new album The People's Key is...Maybe most people are better then me and usually listen to an entire album thoroughly and somewhat repeatedly, but I usually just listen to one song over and over again (until I get really tired of it), so when I say that I have been listening to many (most) of the songs from this album constantly, that means A LOT!

I feel somewhat bad advising anyone to buy this album because it will suck up his soul (and time), but if someone is willing to cross that bridge, I would recommend the songs (in order):

-Shell Games (where the title of this post comes from)
-Jejune Stars
-Ladder Song (where the title of my tumblr comes from)
-Beginner's Mind
-Machine Spiritual (In the People's Key)
-Approximate Sunlight

the image is the album artwork, which is not really my favourite, but I couldn't find an image that really captured the feel of the album

Paris Je T'Aime

Yes, I have been gone for quite a while, and I'm sorry about that, but not too sorry because...well, I WAS IN PARIS!!!!

Many of my friends had always loved France, but for me it didn't start until December of 2010 with help from my friend and oddly enough a movie that I find to be just awful (which shall remain nameless), but all that love was let out and turned into an utter obsession with France. Thus, being able to actually visit Paris was a dream come true. Actually, it was more then I ever could have even come close to dreaming...

While there, I wrote a lot about my feelings towards Paris and ultimately came to the conclusion that the only word to really describe it is "beautiful". That being said, I think the beauty of France is illustrated in the above, which is partially centered around Paris Je T'Aime, which is so much more then a film, rather a collection of short films by some of the most talented directors of today (at least in my opinion). I love too many of the short films to share, so I chose my two absolute favourites: The ever-talented Gus Van Sant's Le Marais, which I now have an even greater appreciation for both because I went to the Marais (and loved it), and also, more importantly because I had a relatively similar experience to the beautiful Gaspard and Ellie on the streets of Paris ;D The other is 14e arrondissement by Alexander Payne, who, though quite possibly a sadist, is my hero. Like all of his films, this short perfectly captures a normal--and thus subtly tragic--human life in addition to the essence of human emotion.

Tour Eiffel (Sylvain Chomet), Steven Meisel, Audrey Marnay by Arthur Elgort, the Paris scene from An Education, Tuileries (Coen Brothers), Anja Rubik by Terry Richardson, me in the Maris, Jeisa Chiminazzo in Japanese Bazaar, the most perfect man I saw outside of Shakespeare and Company
