Song of the Day: Futile Devices-Sufjan Stevens

I have been in love with Sufjan Stevens since I heard his album "Come on Feel the Illinois" (which provides a lovely background in Little Miss Sunshine) five years ago, but at the beginning, I will admit, I was quite disappointed with his newest album "Age of Adz", but after having a great time seeing him live at the Wiltern, I came around and realized just how amazing this album his.

Enjoy, this captivating song: Futile Devices

Song of the Day: Falling Through Your Clothes-the New Pornographers

Falling Through Your Clothes-the New Pornographers

I can't help but find it funny that after doing a song that is both an old favourite of mine and also legitimately old, I am posting a song that is "conceptual and contemporary".

This song is on the New Pornographer's album "Twin Cinema", which is their most popular album and the first one I bought, but to be honest, I only listened to a few songs before moving on to their newest album "Together". Somehow, though, I stumbled upon this song within the great depths of my iTunes and have been listening to it a lot.

It's really quite cool and reminds me of beds and Jeff Koons paintings (can't say why), and it's the perfect song to hum along to while doing homework.

Song of the Day: What do you Want-Joan Armatrading

As an homage to Romy I am starting a new "thing" (for lack of a better word) which is posting a new song for every day (I'll probably end up missing a lot of days, but "song of the every so often" doesn't have quite the same ring). The song will be posted along with some sort of picture (as seen above) that may have vague relation or may just be nice, most of the photos will probably be on my tumblr. To hear the song click on the link

For the first song I am doing "What do You Want" by Joan Armatrading

I have loved Joan Armatrading since I was very small and this has always been a favourite song of mine, it is sung with such raw emotion it is both empowering and heart wrenching

"Kiss Each Othe Clean"

When it comes to categories of things I love I am really bad at choosing favourites, but when it comes to Iron & Wine, I might just have to say he's my favourite modern musician.

I have loved Iron & Wine since I heard his song "Trapeze Swinger" when I was eight. I still love him, and that song never fails to move me, and seeing him play it live made it even better. I really loved the way he played it this time---he played it also when I saw him three years ago---like a love poem filled of anger; it sounded like Allen Ginsberg reading "Howl". I tried to upload the video of him playing it, but it didn't work...CURSES!!!

He is on tour promoting his most recent album "Kiss Each Other Clean" which (of course) is AMAZING! I'd highly recommend the songs "Half Moon", "Walking Far From Home", "Tree by the River", and "Me & Lazarus".

The picture is by Julie Morstad (via tumblr) who is the extremely wonderful artist who did the whimsical album artwork for Neko Case's album "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood". I choose the drawing above, though, because I think it looks like Sam Beam (lead singer of Iron & Wine) who has a famously long and magical beard.

Jack and Jill Tumbled Down the Hil...

Yes, I a realize that I haven't been posting with great frequency, especially compared to the amount I was before...While most of this has just been because of general life insanity I'm not going to lie...there is another blog. It's like "I'm having an affair with this jar of peanut butter" (please click on the link and fast forward to 2:44...if you don't it seems like I'm just spewing nonsense)

The other blog is my new Tumblr: keysflyingatme.tumblr.com

That being said, I WILL be back to this blog very soon with some very awesome things to share
