"Don't Let the Dress Trick You"

About a month ago I went to Polka Dots & Moonbeams (a magical vintage clothing store that most definitely falls under the list of things I love!) and saw THIS dress! I fell in love with it, but didn't buy it...I was sure it would be gone, but after looking through every rack of the store, I found and even better, it was on amazing sale!!!

I really love the blue fringe at the bottom and think it might look nice with my MARC by Marc Jacobs silver high heels and the Longchamp bag I inherited from my mother:

The title of this post comes from a Blonde Redhead song, aptly named "The Dress" :

"Sock it to Me"

Not too long ago I blogged about happy socks, but what I did not include in that post was that they lead me to a sock obsession! In my sock craze I stumbled upon these amazing Solmate Socks which are amazing for a multitude of reasons including: they are mismatched, they are named after flowers, there is a new one each month....or in summary, THEY ARE ADORABLE IN EVERY WAY!!!

"49 Days"

I know I say this about a lot of different people, but if I really had to pick a favourite artist, it might just be Yumiko Kayukawa! Lucky for me, she is having a solo show in LA at the most awesome place EVER, La Luz De Jesus!!!

Show runs through September 26th

SPLAT!!!!

Suddenly splatter paint seems to be every where...from Proenza Schouler collaboration with J Brand "Graffiti Jeans" (shown right corner) to jeans from Current/Elliott and Tory Burch (shown at right)...and I am loving it!!! I am very much embracing the trend with: a Vince shirt from Bloomingdales (bottom right corner) and handmade earrings that my mom got in the 70s (bottom center), which incidentally go perfect with a necklace that used to be my aunt (splatter paint detail shown second right, bottom)

And I really do think it all stems from the amazing artists Jackson Pollock (top left) and Sam Francis (bottom left)

Commercial Couture

While flipping through Bazaar my eye was caught by the extremely exuberant and colorful new Juicy Couture ad ("Juicy Fields Forever", shown bottom left) and I was reminded of, regardless of my feelings for their actual products (the only thing I really like is the perfume) how much I have always loved their ads!

The one with the older ladies with coloured hair is perfect for this Weetzie Bat quote: "[she had] perfect white hair that sometimes had lovely blue or pink tints."

I particularly liked last year's "Do the Don'ts" (shown right) which are very whimsical and remind me of Tim Burton's version of Alice and Wonderland:

And they also remind me of the music video for Lily Allen's "The Fear":

I think the Juicy ads are a tie for my favourite with Prada's spring/summer 2010 lookbook:

"Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?"

So my lack of blogging is do to my staring high school...something that does not fall under the list of things I love. I think my favourite author Francesca Lia Block read my mind with the first line of Weetzie Bat: "The reason Weetzie Bat hated high school was because no one understood".

BUT, what makes it all better is re-reading Stephan Chobsky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower...because Charlie is going through the same "start of high school" experience and can just perfectly articulate the feelings brought on by the situation!
