Miles Aldridge (fashion photography part 2)

One of the many things I love about fashion is its many aspects...When I think about all the fashion-related things I have loved throughout my life the list is really quite spectacular: Tom Tierney's paper dolls (which are really quite amazing, I'd highly recommend checking them out), street style, thrifting, and now, my new wonderful obsession, fashion photography.

The pictures above are by Miles Aldridge one of my new-found favourite photographers. His work is so beautifully unsettling, though mysteriously, and thus provocatively, so.

I particularly love his photographs of beautiful heeled shoes trampling cities from above...they are super inventive and remind me (along with his "Cat Lady" shoot) very much of the book my brother loved as a small child, "Kat Kong" by Dav Pilkey

"Delusions of Grandeur"

Oh Kukula...could her work be anymore whimsical? Anymore fabulously haunting? Well, the work from her show opening TONIGHT at Corpo Nason makes me think not!

You Just Knock my Socks Off!

I have mentioned my adoration of socks and particularly Swedish Happy Socks...and now I am going to briefly mention my love of Giles Deacon (particularly his dinosaur bag) in addition to my love of helping to cure AIDS. Because I love all of these things, the (Jesus-like) birth of these Giles Deacon designed happy socks it's like my personal heaven on earth!

They come in a gorgeous box and there is one for everyday of the week, each more fabulous then then the next...and I was lucky enough to get them for Chanukah (which I find very funny because when I give my dad my wish list (which, because I am a greedy grinch, tends to be long and pricey) he always reminds me that when he was growing up he'd get socks for Chanukah!)

Things I love Miami Edition: Like Weetzie Bat's Shop Come to Life

I found Fly Boutique in this article in Nylon Magazine's America Issue, which acted as my bible-esque guide while in Miami. But the brief blurb could not even begin to prepare me for the the wonders; the shop is filled with the most beautiful vintage clothing and accessories, ranging from world-class designers' ((like Lanvin and Pucci) oldest collection to the kind of dress your mother wore in in '65. For those traveling to Miami, I could not make any stronger of a recommendation that you pop your head in!!!

Things I love Miami Edition: "Hey What are you gonna do When those walls Are falling down Falling down on you? "

I recently returned from Miami, FLA ("Holly came from Miami, F.L.A.") and, to be blunt, it was a wonderful experience. As a result of Art Basel, Miami is a city full to the brim with street art, much of it curated/commissioned by Primary Flight, which is based out of the Wynwood Arts District. While the city street art is everywhere (there are literally space invaders around every corner), the largest group of murals and such are together at the Wynwood Kitchen, which I was lucky enough to visit. It's really spectacular to see so many pieces together and I had never seen some of the artists street work in person (such as Kenny Scharf and Ron English (shown above), also the food was good! (see below)

Los Angeles is the most wonderful city because it now has rain and Judith Supine

It's sad how much time I spend wishing the amazing street artists of the world would come to Los Angeles, but it seems as though someone has been listening because Judith Supine put up SEVEN pieces in this "fair" city!!! My only sadness is that I can't find where they are :( On the bright side, tomorrow I leave for the home of great street art, Miami (more on that later!)

Tim Walker (fashion photography part 1)

Hannibal Smith had it right when he said "I love it when a plan comes together". This perfectly applies to this situation, other then that, rather then a plan, an accumulation of wonderful things came together.

As you may recall I posted about how much I liked the Juicy Couture ads , and then, a few months later I was given an issue of W Magazine with the most fabulous photographs. And THEN (is it bad sign that my writing is starting to resemble "Dude Where's my Car"?) I chanced upon Tim Burton's Bazaar masterpiece ...well, for those of you who are more knowledgeable then I, you will instantly recognize that these three things all have in common ("Sasquatch, Godzilla, King Kong, Lochness, Goblin, Ghoul, a zombie with no conscience...Question what do all these things have in common?") which is TIM WALKER!!!

Since then I have become utterly obsessed with his photographs...seriously, it's like he took the perfect world in my mind and turned it into art.
